We have an upcoming fundraiser and volunteer opportunity this Friday, August 17, 2018. This fundraiser will take place at Panda Express at I30 and Cockrelll Hill. Full address: 4390 Dallas Fort Worth Turnpike, Dallas, TX, 75211. All day event.

Garage Sale Fundraiser

Panda Express Fundraiser
BESO will be having a fundraiser this summer to help with funds for the fall semester. Please make sure to join us in support of BESO. We will be at Panda Express on Cockerel Hill and 30 on July 12th. Just mention BESO at the register and they will give us 20% of your purchase.
BESTEX Summer Academy- June 15th-19th
The BESTEX Summer academy will be held at UNT Dallas from June 15th to 19th. Volunteers needed to assist in serving breakfast and lunch. Volunteers may attend the sessions for free.
Region 10 Bilingual/ESL Education Migrant Conference- June 23 & 24
Region 10 asked for our help with their annual BE/ESL Migrant Conference that will be held on June 23rd and 24th at the Plano Convention Center. This is a great opportunity for BESO, Volunteers needed! for each day 7:30-4:30.
Volunteer duties last year included registering attendees in the morning, general assistance, conduct a raffle at the last session, and serve as facilitator for 4 sessions which includes assisting with technology/set up for presenters and introducing the presenters.

Readers to Leaders Volunteer Opportunity- Summer Program 2015 (ongoing)
BESO members are given the opportunity to partner with Readers to Leaders and volunteer to become a reading buddy for children in K-5th grade in various West Dallas elementary schools. There are Sessions about 45 minutes each day and reading buddy facilitated various educational activities including recreational reading. Volunteers Needed for the Summer program! Thank you to Readers 2 Leaders for allowing BESO the opportunity to work with you!
Las Llaves del Exito- March 28th
Las Llaves del Exito (The Keys to Success) will be held on March 28th at Cedar Valley College from 8am to 12:30pm. This is an amazing opportunity for you to volunteer and help High School students get information about attending college. Contact BESO to sign up to volunteer.
NABE Conference: March 2015
NABE will be hosting the annual bilingual education conference in March from the 5th to 7th in Las Vegas, NV.

BEAM 31st Annual Symposium- March 21st
The BEAM 31st Annual Symposium was held on March 21st at the Sheraton Hotel in Arlington TX. BESO Volunteers helped during this event. to set up, register guests, facilitate sessions. UNT Dallas True Blue Resource Fair- February 2015

Valentines Day Fundraiser- February 2015
BESO had the first Fundraiser of the Spring semester on February 11th. We sold cupcakes, handmade Valentine's Day cards, and had a drawing for amazing prizes.

BESO Bake Sale: November 12th
BESO hosted the first Bake Sale fundraiser of the 2014-2015 school year. This took place on Wednesday, November 12th, 2014 from 10:30am to 2:00pm, Donations from Paradise Bakery, Panera Bakery, and Soon Ja's Bakery were sold!

Canned Food Drive: Oct. 31st- Nov. 14th
B.E.S.O. in association with LULAC held a food drive to benefit the children of Central and South America.
All donated items went to the North Texas Food Bank. The food drive was held October 31st through November 17th. BESO Members received 5 points for each of the first 5 items and 1 point for each item after that.

NAEYC Conference: November 2014
NAEYC's Annual conference and Expo on November 5th to 8th at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center. Student Volunteers had the amazing opportunity of attending this conference for FREE and learn valuable information for their future teaching career.
TexTESOL Conference: November 2014
TexTESOL held their annual affiliate conference in San Marcos, TX in November from the 14th to 15th. BESO Members who attended enjoyed 2 days of great information sessions.
UNT Dallas Transition Fair: November 2014
This event was held on November 14th at UNT Dallas from 10am to 2pm. This was a great opportunity to help student and parents with disabilities receive information about transitioning from high school life to College life. BESO Volunteers helped direct event attendees and possibly translate. Thank You!
Las Laves del Exito- October 25th
The Office of College Readiness hosted Las Llaves del Éxito: The Keys to Success was held again this year at UNT Dallas on Saturday October 25, 2014 from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. BESO Volunteers helped early that morning setting up classrooms and registering the attendees. During the event BESO members were assigned to facilitate sessions and even present and serve as part of a panel.

True Blue Open House: October 2014
True Blue provides opportunity for students and their families to learn about academic programs, admissions process, financial aid. BESO had a table showcasing the organization during the resource fair on Saturday October 18th 11:00 to 11:45am.

TABE Conference: October 2014
The 42nd Annual TABE Conference was held in McAllen, TX this year at the McAllen Convention Center this year
on October 15th to 18th.
Through this wonderful experience, members were able to attend an array of trainings, volunteer to
facilitate and receive credit for professional development.

World's Finest Chocolate Fundraiser! Sept 29th-Oct 10th
BESO Members sold the boxes of $2 chocolate bars and received 20 points per box.
This was a great opportunity for students to earn points at their leisure since these could be sold outside of school. Thank you to all the people who supported BESO by purchasing chocolates!

Region 10 Bilingual/ESL Education Migrant Conference- June 24 & 25
BESTEX Summer Academy- June 16- 20, 2014
BESTEX, a Title III grant, is offered to UNTD students pursuing a degree in Bilingual or ESL Education. The BESTEX Academy is offered to 50 in-service teachers seeking ESL Certification as professional development hours. This was an amazing opportunity for members to take part in training that would be beneficial for your teaching degree, meet new friends, and network with potential colleagues. BESO Volunteers assisted with registration and food service.

UNTD Recruitment Fair: August 2013
BESO attended UNTD's yearly recruitment fair as a student organization of the university. BESO members volunteered their time to help recruit new members by advocating for the largest and most active organization on campus.
BESO Pizza Sale: September 2013
Thank you for the members that volunteered their time to help make the first pizza sale of the semester a total success! In our efforts to fundraiser sufficient funds for our trip to TABE in Houston in the following month, the UNTD staff and faculty helped us reached our goal.

Hooray for cupcakes! BESO had their first bake sale of the year and completely sold out of the delicious cupcakes donated by Dallas' very own Society Bakery. Thank you for all the members that volunteered and helped make this event a total success, we couldn't have done it without you! Also, thank you to the UNTD faculty and staff for their continued support.
Scholastic Book Fair: November/December
Hooray! The book fair is coming to UNT Dallas! The BESO Advisor, Dr. Romano will be hosting UNT Dallas’ 1st Scholastic book fair! There will be a wide variety of books from grades K-8 including entire bin of bilingual literacy. Whether you're a pre-service teachers in need of books for your classroom or simply need a few Christmas gifts, then this event is where you want to be!
Food Drive: November
This Thanksgiving season, BESO wanted to do something special to help give back to our amazing community! We partnered with the Dallas ISD Homeless Education Program (HEP) and coordinated a 4-week long Food Drive. The HEP is a district program that works to help cater to nearly 3,000 homeless children and teens attending Dallas schools that meet the requirements of the McKinney Vento Homeless Assistance Act. However, due to the budget cuts nearly all across the nation, the HEP has received little to food assistance to feed all of the families in need.

USO Project: November
In our efforts to thank our armed forces this Veteran's Day, BESO partnered with the United Service Organization (USO) of the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport. The USO DFW helps provide our US military personnel with a "home away from home" by accepting generous donations such as travel size hygiene items, snack foods, books, movies etc for the soldiers to use with their families before being deployed out or on their way home. BESO had a USO Drive where members donated these needed items and some homemade thank yous just in time for delivery on Veteran's Day. Thank you US Chief Ivan Delgado for helping BESO in the delivery, mission accomplished!

The 41st Annual TABE Conference was held in Houston, TX this year and our members had the gracious opportunity to attend at little to no cost through intense fundraising and generous donations. Through this wonderful experience, members are able to attend an array of trainings, volunteer to facilitate and receive credit for professional development.
Las Llaves del Exito/The Keys to Success: October 2013 & February 2014
The Llaves del Éxito/ Keys to Success event is a special program offered by the Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD). This event took place this Saturday, October 26th and there were students in grades 6-12 and their parents from various districts like Dallas ISD, Richardson ISD, DCCCD, and many more! Thank you so much to the BESO members that volunteered to help make this event a total success!
Mini Library Opportunities- November 2013 & February 2014
UNTD's Education Department has developed their very own Mini Library for pre-service teachers to use as practice tools for informal assessments, reading and writing activities and many other projects for their education courses in the Teacher Program. Together with the Mini Library coordinator, Dr. Cynthia Rodriguez, BESO was given various opportunities to volunteer to help organize the library for future use.

The BEAM Conference was a successful event that allowed BESO members to volunteer and serve as facilitators at their conference at the Sheraton Hotel in Downtown Dallas. BESO partnered with the 24 Fit Squad for this amazing health fundraiser! Guests were able to create health profiles with your BMI and other important information regarding your health, enjoy a cardio dance and boot camp workout. Disabilities Fair- March 22, 2014
BESO had the great opportunity to volunteer at the 1st Disability Services Fair at UNTD and the Office of Wellness Services. Together they worked with vendors to raise awareness for disabilities and encourage to students to embrace their disabilities through various tips given at the fair to help them succeed at school.

Family Game Night- April 2014
BESO was given the great opportunity to participate in Family Game Night at Dallas ISD's William Blair Elementary School. Members were able to volunteer to use their interactive games that they created during Clinical I methods courses, coordinate reader's theatre activities and assistant with other educational games on campus to inform parents on various ways to incorporate educational activities at home.

BESO students were cordially invited to attend the BESO Leadership Institute held in San Antonio, Texas on Saturday, April 5th.This was a great opportunity that allowed our memeber to sharpen their leadership skills while networking, discussing, and actively participating in a series of sessions especially targeted at inspiring and encouraging continuous commitment and advocacy.
Chocolate Fundraisers- Spring 2014
BESO coordinated and participated in their very first chocolate fundraiser with World's Finest Chocolate. In our efforts to fundraiser for our end of the year BESO Banquet, we took on the challenge of selling over 40 boxes of chocolate in the first fundraiser and after exceeding our expectations we sold out in less than a month! We then participated in our second chocolate sell by buying another 40 boxes of chocolates and we just recently sold all of those too. Thank you to all our supporters that helped us fundraiser for our Annual BESO Banquet, because of you- you made it possible!

English Tutoring- February- May 2014
The Language Center in South Hills High School was seeking tutors for English language learners. Each English teacher will have a permanent English tutor in their classroom. The teacher identified the knowledge gap of the students and provided this information to the tutors. BESO members had the opportunity to tutor students who needed tutoring based on their knowledge level. The help of English tutors was crucial especially for English I and English II students whose test scores were currently very low and BESO members were given the opportunity to help students excel in areas were assistance was needed.

BESO members were given the opportunity to attend this wonderful 2nd annual summit at zero cost and receive an abundance of information regarding dual language programs in Texas.
